A Sparkling Winterfest of Lights

Winterfest of Lights has opened for 2022, and it will not disappoint!  Northside Park comes alive as the sun goes down, and it sparkles where ever you look. Like the last couple of years, this year it’s a walk through event. But don’t let that put you off. On the contrary, this way there are less lines, you can go at your own speed, stop to take in your favorite view, take pictures in front of special displays, double back to see it all again,  and really get in the holiday spirit. A great experience for people of every age including families, couples, friends, old and young.  Children, literally squeal with delight, walk with eyes open wide, or sit back to enjoy the view in strollers and wagons. Older guests stroll around, taking the opportunity to rest on the many picnic tables dotted around the park, and some use the scooters available for rent at the entrance to the park. The walk itself is not that long, no more than half a mile, no more than walking round Walmart, to be honest. But it is so much more fun, you can’t help but smile as you take in the twinkling, shimmering light displays, and listen to the seasonal music playing throughout the park.  So grab your hat, gloves, and comfy shoes, and head over to Northside Park for Ocean City’s Winterfest of Lights, you will not be disappointed!

Summer at Northside Park

Best known for Sundaes in the Park on Sunday evenings each summer and the spectacular Winterfest of Lights during the holiday season, Northside Park has so much more to offer year-round. Kids will love the expansive playground, packed with climbing structures, slides, and plenty of space to explore, while nearby covered picnic tables provide a welcome break from the sun. The bathrooms (always important no matter what your age!) are nearby too.

The park’s many paved paths are perfect for walking, jogging, biking, or roller skating, whether you’re out for exercise or a leisurely outing with family and friends. No matter how you like to enjoy the outdoors, Northside Park offers plenty to do—or the perfect spot to do nothing at all.

The Most Popular Fishing Tournaments You Don’t Want to Miss in Ocean City, MD This Summer

0

When summer rolls around in Ocean City, the fish aren’t the only ones making waves. From million-dollar marlin to ladies-only competitions and charity tournaments, fishing season is one of the most exciting times to visit our beach town. Whether you’re an experienced angler or simply love grabbing a drink and watching the weigh-ins, these tournaments are shore to make a splash. (See what I did there?)

Tunas & Tiaras (June 12-13)

tunas and tiaras, ocean city, maryland
Tunas and Tiaras bring together a love of fishing with the best girl gangs around!

This year’s Tunas & Tiaras has already wrapped up, but it’s always one of the most unique events on the calendar. This ladies-only tuna tournament, created by Pam Taylor,  combines serious offshore fishing with fundraising, shopping, raffles, and plenty of fun. If you missed it this year, don’t let it be the one that got away—mark your calendar for next summer- especially if you’re a girls girl!

Marlin Club’s Kids Classic (July 18-19)

fishing tournament, ocean city, maryland, kids classic
Giving kids the chance to experience an epic fishing experience.

Hosted by the Ocean City Marlin Club, the event encourages kids to get out on the water, learn about sportfishing, and create memories that will last long after the final fish is weighed. The Kids Classic gives young anglers the chance to experience the excitement of tournament fishing in a fun, family-friendly environment. The highlight is the awards ceremony where everyone gets an award and portions of the earnings goes to The Wish-A-Fish Foundation.

Huk Big Fish Classic (July 24-26)

Big Huk, tournament, fishing, ocean city maryland
32 hours of straight fishing for some monster fish can get a monster pay out!

The Huk Big Fish Classic is one of Ocean City’s fastest-growing offshore tournaments, and for good reason. Boats compete during an exciting 32-hour fishing window for massive tuna, marlin, mahi, swordfish, and more while millions of dollars are on the line. Yes- you read that right. That’s 32 hours straight on the boat fishing! Even if you’re not fishing, watching giant catches roll onto the scales at Talbot Street Pier is an unforgettable experience.

Heels & Reels (July 30-August 1)

Heels and Reels, fishing tournament, ocean city, maryland
Anything you can do, girls can do better- including fishing!

The Heels & Reels Tournament proves the ladies can reel with the best of them. Hosted by the Ocean City Marlin Club, this women-only event raises money for the Auxiliary Scholarship Fund while anglers compete for tuna, mahi, billfish releases, and junior angler awards. It’s competitive, inspiring, and full of great dockside energy. I actually signed up as a solo angler and was assigned a team of other ladies that were solos anglers as well! I won’t go into detail about seasickness, but I will say that it’s a monster of it’s own!

White Marlin Open (August 3-8)

white marlin open from the air 2025
With standing room only, Harbour Town is vibrating with fishing excitement.

You need to experience this at least once in your life! The White Marlin Open is the world’s largest and richest billfish tournament, attracting hundreds of boats and thousands of anglers from around the world. Daily weigh-ins at Harbour Island become standing-room-only events as spectators hope to witness million-dollar fish hit the scales. This one is my personal favorite. Why you ask? You can actually feel the town vibrate with excitement! And the 4am kick off party at the inlet is pretty epic, too!Even if you’ve never baited a hook in your life, this is an Ocean City tradition everyone should experience at least once.

Poor Girl’s Open (August 13-15)

poors girls open, ocean city maryland
Where fishing is the focus, but support and friendship come in close second.

Don’t let the name fool you—there’s nothing “poor” about the excitement surrounding the Poor Girl’s Open. This ladies-only billfish tournament benefits breast cancer research while bringing together an incredible community of anglers. Expect lots of pink, plenty of laughs, and some seriously impressive catches at Bahia Marina. And if you’re not fishing, you can still participate in the party in the parking lot filled with vendors, auctions, and even decorated bras!

Chase the Fish All Summer Long

fishing tournament, ocean city, maryland
Whether you chasing tuna, marlin, or wahoo- Ocean City, Maryland is here for the fishing all summer long.

Whether you’re chasing trophy fish or simply chasing the excitement, Ocean City’s tournament season is unlike anywhere else on the East Coast. Spend an afternoon wandering the docks, cheer as boats race to beat the scales, snap a photo with a record-breaking catch, and soak in the electric atmosphere. You don’t need a fishing license to enjoy the fun—just a little curiosity and maybe an orange crush in hand.

After all, in Ocean City, the best summer memories are often made where the boats come in.

Seacrets Distilling Company Turns 10 — And You’re Invited to the Party

Ocean City’s home distillery is marking a decade of award-winning spirits with a free public tasting event on the sand this Monday.

Seacrets Distilling is celebrating its anniversary.

Ten years ago, Seacrets added something new to its legendary Ocean City footprint: a working distillery producing small-batch spirits handcrafted on-site. On Monday, June 29, Seacrets Distilling Company is marking that milestone with a free anniversary celebration open to everyone — locals, visitors, and anyone who appreciates a well-made drink.

The party runs from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on the sand near the Seacrets entrance, and it comes with complimentary tastings, giveaways, and the kind of laid-back Ocean City afternoon that makes June worth staying for.

What to Expect

Guests will have the chance to sample some of Seacrets Distilling’s most celebrated handcrafted spirits — the lineup that has earned the distillery more than 50 national awards, including recognition as Maryland Rum Distillery of the Year. Making its debut at the celebration will be Seacrets Beachin’ Cocktails, a new line of ready-to-drink canned cocktails available in three flavors — a timely launch for summer in Ocean City.

Beachin Cocktails by Seacrets - Dream Ocean City, Drink Ocean City winner

  • Lemon Iced Tea Vodka: A smooth and refreshing twist on the classic summer tea, delivering bright citrus flavor.
  • Peach Vodka & Soda: Light and crisp, offering a sweet, summery punch of natural peach flavor.
  • Pineapple Vodka & Soda: Tropical, easy-drinking, and made with real fruit flavors.
All varieties are crafted to be light, crisp, and free from artificial aftertastes.

A Decade of Craft in Ocean City

distillery tower cam at seacrets

Since opening in June 2016, Seacrets Distilling Company has grown from a novel addition to one of Ocean City’s most iconic properties into a destination in its own right. The distillery produces its spirits on-site using traditional techniques — a genuine small-batch operation in the middle of one of the East Coast’s busiest resort towns.

For visitors, it offers something Ocean City doesn’t always get credit for: a craft experience rooted in place, producing something you can only get here.

Jimena DeChant is the artist in Residence in Studio E during July. Her work is a celebration of the natural world and the quiet moments that often go unnoticed. Through vibrant color, expressive brushwork and a focus on organic forms, I seek to capture the fleeting beauty found in everyday life- whether it’s the unfolding of a flower, the play of sunlight across a landscape, or the subtle emotions that arise in stillness. Ultimately, my art is an invitation to slow down, to look closer, and to rediscover the beauty woven into the fabric of our daily lives.

The artisan for July is Kacie Neeb, a photographer and visual storyteller based in Berlin, Maryland. A 2019 graduate of Salisbury University with a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts, she has spent the past six years with the Art League of Ocean City, where she currently serves as Gallery Director. Through her work as both an artist and arts professional, Neeb is dedicated to fostering creative connections and celebrating diverse perspectives through art.

Participants have praised the program for its friendly atmosphere, stimulating discussions, and the chance to build new relationships while discovering fresh creative perspectives.

“It’s been wonderful to see how enthusiastically people have embraced Creative Connections,” said Rina Thaler, Executive Director of the Art League of Ocean City. “What started as an idea to bring people together through creativity has quickly grown into a community. Participants tell us they look forward to each gathering, not only for the presentations but also for the friendships and conversations that have developed along the way.”

The third session will take place on July 10 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Art League of Ocean City. Guests will enjoy an interactive presentation by artist and 2024 Robinson Fellowship Award recipient Jenn Carter, who will explore how artists learn to observe the world and translate those observations into drawings. Participants will have the opportunity to practice sketching from a photograph and take home a drawing of their own. No prior art experience is necessary.

Creative Connections is held at the Art League of Ocean City Center for the Arts on 94th Street, bayside. Upcoming sessions are scheduled for September 11, October 9, November 13, and December 11. Participation is free, and light refreshments are provided.

Pedicabs Roll Onto the Ocean City Boardwalk This Weekend in Ocean City, Maryland

A new way to experience the Ocean City Boardwalk is arriving this summer as Atlantic Pedicabs begins rolling out its new pedal-powered transportation service. Whether you’re heading to dinner, enjoying an evening out, or simply want to give your feet a break, the new pedicabs offer visitors a fun, convenient way to travel along one of Ocean City’s most iconic attractions.

Soft Launching into Summer

The company plans to begin with a soft launch this weekend, initially operating a handful of pedicabs daily while additional drivers complete training. Service will continue expanding through the summer, with Atlantic Pedicabs ultimately operating a fleet of up to 20 pedicabs on the Boardwalk. The company has already assembled 15 brand-new pedicabs, with 10 more expected to arrive in the coming weeks.

When Can You Ride?

Pedicabs will operate daily from 2 p.m. until midnight, beginning after Boardwalk bicycle hours conclude. Riders can travel along the approved Boardwalk service area from the Inlet to 27th Street, although the section between South 1st Street and Wicomico Street will remain off-limits due to heavy pedestrian traffic.

How Do I Ride?

During the initial launch, catching a ride is easy. Simply flag down an available pedicab, let the driver know your destination, and you’ll receive a fare quote along with a QR code for cashless payment. In approximately three weeks, Atlantic Pedicabs plans to introduce its own passenger app, allowing visitors to request rides, pay digitally, and even schedule trips in advance.

Pricing has been designed to remain simple and transparent, with a $12 minimum fare and rides costing $14 per mile.

Who Can Catch a Pedicab?

Each pedicab can generally accommodate up to three passengers, making them a great option for couples, friends, or families with young children. While standard pedicabs cannot accommodate wheelchairs, the company says it is actively working on ADA tow-capable options for future service.

Safety has been a major focus during the planning process. Every operator undergoes training in safe riding techniques, customer service, Boardwalk regulations, and pedestrian awareness. Drivers are also background checked, while each pedicab receives daily inspections and is GPS monitored throughout its shift to ensure safe operation and compliance with Town regulations.

Looking Ahead

Atlantic Pedicabs hopes the new service becomes more than just transportation. Company officials envision pedicabs helping visitors explore more restaurants, shops, hotels, and attractions without worrying about the long walk between destinations.

While many visitors still have fond memories of the Boardwalk tram, Atlantic Pedicabs says its goal isn’t to replace those memories but to create a new tradition. By combining convenient transportation with an open-air ride and personal service, the company hopes pedicabs become another memorable part of the Ocean City Boardwalk experience for years to come.
